Arte – Alter, Calcutta

There is something about clothes that look beautiful and are so comfortable you can practically live in them. Over lock-down I have been trying more and more to bring to work and create content in collaboration with homes grown brands that bring out the best of craftsmanship, are eco-friendly promotes sustainability and are socially responsible.

Arte Alter, a made in India brand from Calcutta, a city that is a melting pot of art and culture and reflects everything a socially conscious brand stands for. They firmly believe in creating impact, from the betterment of artisans in terms of health & safety, to textile revival in a contemporary fashion, everything to minute detail of packaging is encouraged by local artisans making it reusable and eco-friendly. At Arte-Alter, they celebrate handmade and craftsmanship, and that is what we as a country “India” is proud of.

The first thing that comes in mind when I see their collection is free flowing comfort, refreshingly beautiful colors, a sense of simple sophistication and a splash of subtle art throughout the collection. The name Arte-Alter itself means, an alternative form of art. All their products are made by hand, and for them, that is art.

Fabrics They Use: this is something I feel needs to be highlighted as it’s the core of any good garmnet. With comfort and care as a key aspect, arte-alter takes immense care to provide you with fabrics made out of azo-free and natural dyed yarns. The yarns are all-natural yarns, like khadi, cotton, silk and linen. The yarns used are hand spined yarns and hand spinning is an ancient textile art, in which fibers are drawn out and twisted together to form a yarn.
The biggest advantage of using natural fabrics is that, they are biodegradable, breathable, soft, durable and also can be produced organically. These fabrics are very comfortable to wear, they are porous, so they do not stick to your body, and they do not cause any harm to the nature when produced. The fabrics are hand washed in minimum amount of water, after the fabrics comes out of the loom, to make them soft and reduce the possibility of further shrinkage.

Upasna

I discovered Upasna during my year in Pondicherry. Searching for local brands that was comfortable for the humid weather i was living in, stylish and worth the money.

Upasana, an Auroville based brand is a beautiful amalgamation of creativity, fashion, design, Indian culture, social responsibility and spiritual progress – woven seamlessly together.
Clothing has power, the power to change lives. The lives of farmers, spinners, weavers, printers, tailors, designers and many more who have invisibly woven their souls into what we wear. Upasana honours them all, consciously, at every stage of crafting their products. Shifting fashion to touch the soul instead of just the body, we believe life is interconnected. Beauty is beyond vanity.

Upasna Label, aims to create conscious sustainable fashion where they take care of our environmental cost and not pass it on to the future. For them, design is creative, problem-solving. Any problem, be it post-tsunami trauma, farmer suicides, garbage littering, weavers losing their job, Upasana looks at social issues as a space to exercise for change. Out of these real problems were born the following projects:

» Kapas – organic cotton project with families of Madurai

» Varanasi Weavers – a project with the weaving communities of Varanasi

» Tsunamika – a tsunami related project providing livelihood to fisherwomen

» Paruthi – India’s local organic brand to support India’s organic farming community

» Small Steps – compact bags as an alternative to plastic bags

It is great to be sharing about brand like this, investing in something that helps nuild my conscious lifestyle.

Doodlage

Sometimes mind can contradict our own thoughts, i used think if you love fashion, its difficult to walk on path of sustainability; but then again, with time, i ask myself, if i truly respect the fashion i love.

I have never cared about fashion rules, i have always loved wearing colors i like, trends i adore (no matter how yesteryear they are) so trying to give up on fast fashion isn’t very hard (but i am just getting started). Not caring about trends doesn’t mean i am not aware of them, and being a 90’s kid, last decade i have only seen trends come back and nothing majorly fresh, a lot of reinvention, yes! but then again its a very personal opinion.

The only trend i have been trying to get in line is to buy thoughtfully and keep up the main aim- comfort and style. This dress i got from Doodlage is every bit of style and comfort and can easily go from work to brunch, movie date to a vacation outfit.

psx_20180706_1254495581845206954652530.jpg

Doodleage was born from a simple idea—to create unique, environment friendly products, that are high in style. Everything at Doodlage is made with love; every piece they make is exclusive and unique.

Doodlage is a perfect sync of sustainability and innovativeness. They work with eco-friendly fabrics, such as organic cotton, corn fabric, banana fabric. Another source of fabric is the left over or quality, discarded textile from large manufacturers, which account for the “wastage” in export terms. They also source fabrics, which are left unused by other retailers post-cutting. Much like pieces of a puzzle, these bits and pieces come together, each with its own story. As a brand they love experimenting with textures, embroideries, panels, washes, shapes and sizes to optimize the use of every little .

Ikat love with Translate

In the clutter of fast fashion ‘Translate, Handwoven Ikat’ has given me something to be grounded about. Collection by Translate India is very avant-garde, with supreme quality. I love how each of their garments can be used as separates or mix and match in numerous ways. Be it summers or using them in layers in winters, they are stylish yet minimalistic, comfortable yet classic and every bit feminine. This particular garment is easy and contemporary, be it lunch with friends or meeting a client it’s just perfect. This dress has an amazing pattern play and there are number of ways to style it. Enchanted white with Samant Chauhan

I love my whites as much I love my blacks, and yet have a life that is beyond the monochrome magic. While many may disagree an all-white look stands out more than an all-black look for various reasons. Regardless of personal like and dislike for the bright noncolor head to toe hue, an all-white look is more of a statement than its counterpart. It’s brighter; It’s classic but not too been-there-done-that. It’s a no-brainer but not that easy to pull off.

Spelling white perfection in this Anarkali designed by Samant Chauhan, paired with Sangeeta Boochra jewelry that further enhances my look, has to be my most favorite look for summer 2018. Whether it’s a wedding or family function, this look assures spotlight. This top to toe white Anarkali by Samant Chauhan with the light embroidered front is perfect for any summer occasion; It is comfortable, feather-light and paired with right silver jewellery has garnered me several compliments already.

The Brand Sangeeta Boochra has been synonyms to silver jewellery for years now, with best of design that shows the creative craftsmanship has brought Indian craftsmanship on the world map. They offer best of traditional and contemporary jewelry that has developed the ancient craftsmanship and began to create exclusive jewelry with the help of its master craftsmen around Jaipur. Established in the year 1897, it has traveled far and wide. Regularly spotted on best of Bollywood style icons, their pieces are a real treasure.

When I am wearing Anarkalis I prefer the ones with subtle color and not so heavy intricate work. The only reason being I love accessorizing, and lately, I am obsessed with the silver/oxidized jewellery. Apart from the fact that it turns any look classy, the jewellery like the one I got form Sangeeta Boochra is a small investment to a forever fashion, as it sure will never go out of style.

An ultimate neck piece like this brings out a delightful look when you pair it up with a subtle garment, you can style it for a traditional look over a cotton/Banarasi saree, pair it up with your favorite Tie & dye kurta or just a white shirt and it sure will complement each one of it. The intricately designed earrings are light and versatile, the flower ring is just the perfect size symbolizing a blooming flower, it makes me a happy person every time I wear it, even on not so good days, I mean who doesn’t like flowers, it makes everyone happy and this one will never fade out. With generations of efforts, name, and hard work, the quality of products from the brand are undeniably good.

Dark Florals – Trending this spring

Anothet season of spring has arrived abd with it has come time to let go of layers, knits and jackets (well they will be out, for one more winter holiday, watch this space for something exciting coming soon) and make way for the all new trends and colours. Spring fashion doesn’t have to burst with zesty shades — instead, look to dark florals, Victorian blouses and embroidered denim.

I am really looking forward to wear a lot of florals (obviously), lavenders, corals, embroidered denims, oversized everything and off shoulders. I think even sheer dresss and shirts are going to be huge this season. Midi length dress, dungress, and lot of prints on prints- really excited to try this on.

This dress from H&M is something that i have already worn 6 time ssince i bought it last month from tehir new store in Jubliee Hills. The print, the vinatge vibe of the dress, the ruffles and and sleevs.. what is not not to love about this dress.  From day to sexy date night, this dress is perfect for nay occasion.

Florals are something i really love investing in it, its like a timless piece of fashion and anyone can carry it off.  There is never too much of it and i can’t wait to flaunt more of this trend not just through spring but hopefully through the summer.

Good Cow Café

The new café on the block, which is the brain child of Masaba Gupta promises to satiate your appetite for both good food and a good coffee.

Cappuccino at Good Cow Cafe

This post made it to my blog almost 3 visits later, the place has a very artistic vibe and somehow ambiance to me matters as much as the food itslef.

Iced Americano and Falafel at Good Cow Cafe

Good Cow Café offers both indoors and al fresco seating, both huge on design. The indoors are more of monochromatic drama full of bright light and cow figures, while the outdoors is a burst of colours, perfect for a summer outing. The place is full of wooden tables; old school benches outdoors, glass windows, book shelves but our favorite parts are definitely the black and white tiled floors and artful walls all around the place.

Grilled Cottage Cheese at Good Cow Cafe

The interiors of the place are done by Masaba Gupta herself. Anyone who is familiar with her designs will see its shadow in every corner of the place from cushions, caricatures, art pieces and even on the menu.

Monochrome interiors at Good Cow Cafe, Hyderabad

A dream come true for any voracious reader who can settle on a comfortable couch and satiate an appetite for both good coffee and books here. It makes for a great outing spot, be it with your friends or family; with its location away from all the hustle bustle of the city you can end up spending hours without even noticing it.

Pizza party at Good Cow Cafe, Hyderabad

The menu is a novel treat at the Good Cow Cafe, while their signature cappuccino that comes with their logo is fast becoming most Instagramable coffee in town, their iced Americano is just as good. For tea lover you have plenty of fascinating flavours but what will catch your attention is the range of special ‘Good cow shakes’ that offer flavours like brownie rocher, classic cheesecake, chilli alphonso mango, cookies and cream and berry merry.

The Wholesome Salad and Iced Americano are perfect summer treat at Good Cow Cafe

Coming to food i start with  their ‘Wholesome Salad’ that is flavorful and delights at every bite; and it makes for a hearty appetiser. ‘Arinchini’ is a crispy delight filled with goodness of carrot, beetroot, garlic flakes, served with tangy sauce on side that completes the dish.  Their thin crust pizza are in for the run of best pizzas in town, you must try their ‘Lamb Pepperoni’ that tastes as good as it looks and for vegetarians the ’Quattro Formaggi’ pizza is the one you will go home thinking  about.  My vegitaraian companions also tried their ‘Falafal’ and ‘Grilled Cottage Cheese’ relishing it with smiles on their face.

Arancini at Good Cow Cafe

The menu doesn’t have desserts yet, but they promise there is lot more to be added in the menu. Something for later right?

Retro Red

20170716_15151920170716_15135820170716_163758

Fashion is probably the easiest way to convey your mood and inner self. I for one love to play around with vintage style and trends because they forever remain.

This top has three trends in it, its red; which Paris has officially declared the color of the season, it has ruffled sleeves and gingham print that has been around for some time now. The extra large bow just adds to the whole look like a statement. A classic print and color, this is a piece that will stay in my wardrobe for ages and i will hardly ever get bored of it.

Keeping my accessories minimal but on point, I chose to throw in an extra set of bow’s – flats by Chalk Studio and a mini white bag- Anqi Bags that played its part impeccably with this pretty top from Stalk buy love.

Sleepwear style with ‘Blanche’

What come to your mind when you say pajamas or sleepwear? Well I think of comfort, relaxed state of mind and SLEEP (of course). Sleepwear is not just a garment of night anymore, everyone will be able to relate the ecstasy of coming back home after a long day and getting into your comfy pj’s.  We gen next love to laze around in our Pj’s all day when we are at home.

While women’s nightwear was once full of shapeless garments whose sole reason was to just keep us warm and discreet, rather than looking nice and being comfortable. Nightwear is no longer for sleeping only, but has transformed into a fashion statement. Modern women prefer to wear sleepwear with a choice of fashionable cuts, sexy look or like me classy and well groomed.

So, when I had to choose, i undoubtedly went for a classy black pajama set with white detailing from ‘Blanche’ a Jaipur based brand that specializes in sleepwear. While the brand is all about some quirky prints, I was glad to find something that suits my taste.

This particular nightwear has been my holiday accompaniment for last few trips. Holiday mornings for comes with tons of coffee, breakfast in bed and undeniably strong desire to not leave the warm soft bed for the rest of your life. In such cases a comfortable and stylish sleepwear is just the thing I need.

For me Comfort and style go hand-in-hand and I found my hunt for perfect nightwear stops right at ‘Blanche’. So, snuggle yourself in comfortable (but not boring) nightwear, after all why stop being fashionable in bed?

Hoppery by Olive Bistro

IMG_0222

Olive Group Launched its first ever microbrewery in Hyderabad.  The brewery is spread across a quaint glasshouse, an alfresco and a wooden deck. Step into this charming, split-level space with arguably the best view in Hyderabad.  No forced ‘brewery’ aesthetic here; just a pleasant, contemporary all-day space which transcends through the day as a feel-good brewery to a lively spot at night with friends and family. It’s perfect urbane interiors come with unmatched view and a relief that only a chilled pint brings during hot summer days, especially the magic of freshly brewed craft beer with flavours so distinct, that bottled beer can only hope to match.

The Hoppery has introduced four kinds of beer as of now; HopNotch (IPA), Copperead (Dark Lager), White Spice (Wheat) and Hydera Brew (a root beer inspired by the flavors of Hyderabad).  For the experimental ones, there is an array of beer based cocktails as well. Sip on the Flaming Lips (jalapeno infused vodka, sweet and sour mix, beer) or indulge in The Cure (Espresso, white rum, Kahlua, maple syrup, IPA beer). There’s also a classic Beer Sangria (vodka infused fruits, apple juice, red grape juice, topped with beer) for the Sangria lovers, all of these are is easy to drink, fresh and very session-able.

Unpretentious and simple, the food menu boasts of an array of splendid flavours created by the culinary genius Chef Shaun Kenworthy. The menu comprises small plates which are fresh, with comfort flavours and delicious in taste. We would definitely recommend the Grilled Shrimp with Mango Salsa, classic Assorted Fries but a must try is Crispy Tex-Mex Chicken Wings accompanied with choice of BBQ dip and blue cheese dip, Cheese and Chicken Ham Croquettes served with salsa rosa cocktail souse – all of which make the ideal beer bites.

Winter Green

wp-image-600228155jpg.jpgwp-image-1658145562jpg.jpgwp-image-1558694004jpg.jpg

IMG_7800.JPG

Pantone releases a color ever year declaring it as a ‘Color of the Year’ and this year they choose ‘Greenery’. Pantone Doesn’t set a trend but helps set a base for it and companies, be it fashion or otherwise make trends, business around it. Pantone has said with the world we live in today, it’s a very stressful and intense one. With high demands and pressure to succeed in everyday life, we forget to “stay calm”. This color visually is designed to bring those emotions and thoughts into place. According to the company, the color of the year “Greenery” brings meaning and an idea of what’s been happening in the global culture.

I like the color, especially emerald green. Green as a color is so uplifting, and when you say green you have all the visuals of trees, mountains, grass basically all things fresh and alive. I agree that people need to make a sense of connection to reality (not man made but natural) and encourage people to “Take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate”.

I Love this dress from H&M I got it last year when the store just launched in Delhi. It’s perfect for Hyderabad weather. The boots add to entire winter feel, seeing I wait an entire year to wear them, I have worn these boots so much and now can’t wait for winters to return or take a holiday abroad to take them out of closet again (as it is it’s hard to wear boots in Hyderabad, a big face palm)

Minimalistic Style with AND

It was a chaotic week, so many things rescheduled, i have been trying to be more focused , be more better with my planning. but sometimes you just have those days when things go off the path for various reasons.
I have had 3 such days this week, leaving me with nothing to do. its then when i realized i have been pushing myself so hard that i hardly had time for myself. i mean i don’t know when was the last time i read a book, or watched a movie in theater. I am not complaining, (even though people keep asking me how i haven’t watched ‘Dangal’ yet but well i have my hands full and i feel good about it.

With a full time job and all free time dedicated to blog the only time i get sometimes is to plan and plan and plan.
