This is exactly what my Naushad Ali outfit makes me feel this summer. A designer with minimalist inclinations, he believes in revisiting designs to adapt more than to add. He fosters a deep love of Indian traditions and crafts, creating designs that bring together modern cuts and heritage fabrics.

‘Indigo chronicles’ tells the story of the vast textile industry of Jaipur through waste. Indigo, a commonly used natural dye for all kinds of hand printing in Jaipur, is easy to spot around the city. You can find it running through the drains of the pink city, as blots on walls, in sarees and tunics that dress not just the people in the city but a widely accepted colour across the country, the rugs, the jaipuri blankets, the rajasthani turbans, all narrate the story of, arguably the oldest known natural dye.

Arte – Alter, Calcutta

There is something about clothes that look beautiful and are so comfortable you can practically live in them. Over lock-down I have been trying more and more to bring to work and create content in collaboration with homes grown brands that bring out the best of craftsmanship, are eco-friendly promotes sustainability and are socially responsible.

Arte Alter, a made in India brand from Calcutta, a city that is a melting pot of art and culture and reflects everything a socially conscious brand stands for. They firmly believe in creating impact, from the betterment of artisans in terms of health & safety, to textile revival in a contemporary fashion, everything to minute detail of packaging is encouraged by local artisans making it reusable and eco-friendly. At Arte-Alter, they celebrate handmade and craftsmanship, and that is what we as a country “India” is proud of.

The first thing that comes in mind when I see their collection is free flowing comfort, refreshingly beautiful colors, a sense of simple sophistication and a splash of subtle art throughout the collection. The name Arte-Alter itself means, an alternative form of art. All their products are made by hand, and for them, that is art.

Fabrics They Use: this is something I feel needs to be highlighted as it’s the core of any good garmnet. With comfort and care as a key aspect, arte-alter takes immense care to provide you with fabrics made out of azo-free and natural dyed yarns. The yarns are all-natural yarns, like khadi, cotton, silk and linen. The yarns used are hand spined yarns and hand spinning is an ancient textile art, in which fibers are drawn out and twisted together to form a yarn.
The biggest advantage of using natural fabrics is that, they are biodegradable, breathable, soft, durable and also can be produced organically. These fabrics are very comfortable to wear, they are porous, so they do not stick to your body, and they do not cause any harm to the nature when produced. The fabrics are hand washed in minimum amount of water, after the fabrics comes out of the loom, to make them soft and reduce the possibility of further shrinkage.

Arie hand woven khadi dress

Aquamarine hand-woven khadi overlayer
I can’t wait to travel and wear this overlayer everywhere. It makes for a great airport style, adding as a layer to my mountain trips and back in city it makes for a stylish work wear. I paired it with their pink resort dress, that can be worn as a separate as well. This aqua cerulean drop shoulder trench overlay comes with patch pocket detail and is handcrafted in soft khadi jamdani with tie and dye detailing on sleeves. Shop Here

They are a luxuriously affordable brand that offers customization option and a joy of wearing them, complimentary with each outfit.

Doodlage

Sometimes mind can contradict our own thoughts, i used think if you love fashion, its difficult to walk on path of sustainability; but then again, with time, i ask myself, if i truly respect the fashion i love.

I have never cared about fashion rules, i have always loved wearing colors i like, trends i adore (no matter how yesteryear they are) so trying to give up on fast fashion isn’t very hard (but i am just getting started). Not caring about trends doesn’t mean i am not aware of them, and being a 90’s kid, last decade i have only seen trends come back and nothing majorly fresh, a lot of reinvention, yes! but then again its a very personal opinion.

The only trend i have been trying to get in line is to buy thoughtfully and keep up the main aim- comfort and style. This dress i got from Doodlage is every bit of style and comfort and can easily go from work to brunch, movie date to a vacation outfit.

Doodleage was born from a simple idea—to create unique, environment friendly products, that are high in style. Everything at Doodlage is made with love; every piece they make is exclusive and unique.

Doodlage is a perfect sync of sustainability and innovativeness. They work with eco-friendly fabrics, such as organic cotton, corn fabric, banana fabric. Another source of fabric is the left over or quality, discarded textile from large manufacturers, which account for the “wastage” in export terms. They also source fabrics, which are left unused by other retailers post-cutting. Much like pieces of a puzzle, these bits and pieces come together, each with its own story. As a brand they love experimenting with textures, embroideries, panels, washes, shapes and sizes to optimize the use of every little .

Ito India

I recently collaborated with a homegrown label that represents itself as a connoisseur of slow living. Ito India, a clothing label that is all about being simple and fuss free, while also offering style and comfort. The outfits are mostly made of 100% pure cotton, mulmul, clean lines, relaxed silhouettes and pastel shades.

My fair lady maxi in blush pink with delicate details on neck and knots on sleves and neck. The design is simple, the outfit is comfortable, even with the minimalistic approach i can wear this to the fanciest of brunches, travel in it and still look elegant.

Reversible Choga, my favourite piece from brand that give a benefit of two, at the price of one. Checkered hand loom at one side and pale quartz mulmul at the other i wore this on my trip to palampur. This kept me warm in the pleasantly chill weather and i got a lot of Instagram worthy pictures in the beautiful palampur.

The clothes are are perfect foe modern yet conscious consumer’s. They use natural material to create contemporary and eco conscious products.
You can shop them on Instagram @itoindia

Cape of style

I do love a dress that makes me feel i have stepped out to shoot for Vogue. This orange cape dress in particular can be worn in multiple ways, all you have to do is – tie it differently. Surprisingly this is the first time i tried a solid color, especially orange. Paired with gold, i can that it turned out to be much better than i imagined it in my head.

Shades of orange are all great for Indian skin tones and pairing it with simple accessories and muted colors work wonders.

This cape by label A.projekt  makes me feel empowering, and is great fr a day soiree or a night out, either way it sure is to make a statement.

Gaurav Gupta with models showcasing his collection along with showstoppers Aditi Rao Hydari and Kangana Ranaut

Blenders Pride Fashion Tour was back in Hyderabad with a special showcase around
‘My Expression, My Pride’ by the talented designer Gaurav Gupta. The fashion enthusiasts of Hyderabad turned up in their fashionable best to witness the grandeur and glamour at Taj Falaknuma Palace.

The 14th edition of BPFT celebrates the self and the individual through its extraordinary new concept-‘Pride’ with shows across 4 cities, especially curated by India’s most blazingly talented, world-famous fashion designers- Rohit Bal (Mumbai), Tarun Tahiliani (Gurugram), Gaurav Gupta (Hyderabad), and Ashish N Soni (Kolkata). Together, these designers curated a journey that brought alive their own distinct versions of pride as an expression of success.

For the Hyderabad show, designer Gaurav Gupta weaved a seamless story around the concept ‘My Expression, My Pride’. In this age of technology, where everything is instant and our desire for immediate gratification is the only thing greater than our egos, the value of the ‘bond’ you have with yourself becomes increasingly important. Building on this ‘bond’, Gaurav Gupta aims at breaking the stereotypes, urging individuals to be sure of who they are, allowing them to constantly and consistently surprise both themselves and the world by their achievements. And then, that becomes a true expression of who they are.

Surrounded by lush pine trees and snow-clad mountains, WelcomHotel Pine-n-Peak by ITC is located in the picturesque town of Pahalgam. Located atop the Rajwas Plateau, Pine-n-Peak’s pristine beauty remains untouched by the chaos of the market and ensures that the best views are accorded to Welcom Hotel Pine n Peak, including the shimmering Lidder River and snow topped mountains playing with the sunrays, bathing the valley in different hues throughout the day.

Nothing is better than munching hot crisps in the freezing weather

Snuggled in the layers of untouched snow and fir laden paths, the property boosts of 80 rooms, suites and cottages. We got to stay the luxury ‘Khawabgah Suit’ (by the way it was the same room Alia Bhatt stayed while she was shooting for Raazi in Kashmir) not that it had to be a reason to make us special, as the room was special in its own way, the view was great, the living room and room had a touch of Kashmiri details along with urban amenities. Along with the most magnificent views of the beautiful city, one can enjoy a game of golf at the nearby Pahalgam Race Course, or shop from the finest shopping arcade of Pahalgam, or enjoy a day of fishing in the Liddar River. Those looking for high adrenaline activities can enjoy trekking, river rafting and also skating at the Welcom Hotel ice rink. Every season here brings with itself something new; the valley, it seems changes colors as winters fade into spring and summers blend with Autumn.

It is rare to find charming and genuinely warm staff at most luxury properties. But at this property the staff will you impressed with their warmth, attentiveness, courtesy and a natural zeal to serve. Each of the staff members will leave a lasting impression on you and make sure even your tiny need is fulfilled with a huge smile.

Food: The property has three dining outlets, overlooking the garden and the river, Lolaab – All Day Dinning, Saahil – Tea Lounge, Gulistan – Open Garden all offer mutli-cuisine delicacies. Since it was my first stop in Kashmir i went all out on the local specialties like tabakh maaz, rista (meatballs in a red, paprika-saffron-fennel spice gravy), rogan josh,  korma (lamb roasted with yoghurt, spices and onion puree, topped with coriander leaves),  seekh kababs and contains four pieces of methi korma (chicken or mutton flavored with a spice mixture containing dried fenugreek (methi) leaves), marchhwangan korma (chicken legs/thighs cooked in a spicy browned-onion sauce) and gushtaba (meatballs cooked in a spicy yoghurt gravy) and also wouldn’t want to miss the best ever walnut brownie I have ever had was right here at Pine and Peak with ice-cream. The credit entirely goes to the staff who insisted to send it to our room when I told them I had no space for dessert, and I am so glad I did.

Kahwa is the traditional tea in Kashmir and it goes with everything you eat as it helps digestion of the food. The tea is prepared by boiling green tea leaves with saffron strands, cinnamon bark, cardamom pods and occasionally Kashmiri roses to add special aroma. The tea is then served with sugar or honey and crushed nuts, usually almonds or walnuts. I swear I dint have coffee my entire trip, and stuck to Kahwa throughout.

One of the best moments from my stay at Pine n Peak, Pahalgam was breakfast overlooking lidder river

I am not a morning person, but when I am in hills it comes automatically to me. I was so glad to make an effort on a cosy winter morning for an outdoor breakfast, overlooking the Liddar River. The crisp air, hot refills from samovar paired with fresh Kashmiri breads and an extended breakfast indulging in a view of hills was an absolute bliss. Stay at Pine n Peak was a really heart-warming experience, and all the credit goes to the staff, who will go out of their way to make your needs meet. I loved how they offered to organise a special bonfire, after a long ride (horse ride) to Baisaran organise an outdoor breakfast setup and treated us like family and even packed a take away meal for us for our ride to Srinagar our next stop.

You can have a look at their website here and make you summer/winter booking. A pro tip is that pahalgam has so many places, and if you a person who love trekking and exploring; you can spend up to a week without getting bored. Read more about places to visit in my following blogs, as I take you to a virtual journey to Srinagar and Gulmarg next.

Enchanted white with Samant Chauhan

I love my whites as much I love my blacks, and yet have a life that is beyond the monochrome magic. While many may disagree an all-white look stands out more than an all-black look for various reasons. Regardless of personal like and dislike for the bright noncolor head to toe hue, an all-white look is more of a statement than its counterpart. It’s brighter; It’s classic but not too been-there-done-that. It’s a no-brainer but not that easy to pull off.

Spelling white perfection in this Anarkali designed by Samant Chauhan, paired with Sangeeta Boochra jewelry that further enhances my look, has to be my most favorite look for summer 2018. Whether it’s a wedding or family function, this look assures spotlight. This top to toe white Anarkali by Samant Chauhan with the light embroidered front is perfect for any summer occasion; It is comfortable, feather-light and paired with right silver jewellery has garnered me several compliments already.

The Brand Sangeeta Boochra has been synonyms to silver jewellery for years now, with best of design that shows the creative craftsmanship has brought Indian craftsmanship on the world map. They offer best of traditional and contemporary jewelry that has developed the ancient craftsmanship and began to create exclusive jewelry with the help of its master craftsmen around Jaipur. Established in the year 1897, it has traveled far and wide. Regularly spotted on best of Bollywood style icons, their pieces are a real treasure.

When I am wearing Anarkalis I prefer the ones with subtle color and not so heavy intricate work. The only reason being I love accessorizing, and lately, I am obsessed with the silver/oxidized jewellery. Apart from the fact that it turns any look classy, the jewellery like the one I got form Sangeeta Boochra is a small investment to a forever fashion, as it sure will never go out of style.

An ultimate neck piece like this brings out a delightful look when you pair it up with a subtle garment, you can style it for a traditional look over a cotton/Banarasi saree, pair it up with your favorite Tie & dye kurta or just a white shirt and it sure will complement each one of it. The intricately designed earrings are light and versatile, the flower ring is just the perfect size symbolizing a blooming flower, it makes me a happy person every time I wear it, even on not so good days, I mean who doesn’t like flowers, it makes everyone happy and this one will never fade out. With generations of efforts, name, and hard work, the quality of products from the brand are undeniably good.

Nail Ishq, Hyderabad

Everyone loves a good pamper session, and when it can give you a longer result it makes every penny spent worth it.

For ages women have loved to groom themselves, proper hair, skin and ofcourse nails. Nails are as important to us as much as the skin itself. Nothing speaks sophistication as much as well done nails.

Perfectly manicured nails and feet talk about an individual much better than half chipped nails or unmanicured (it may not be a word but it is definitely is an expression) hand and feet.

Comes to the rescue ‘ Nail Ishq’ Hyderabad. Tucked away in the corner of a dessert shop this Nail Parlour is my new favourite in town. They are the most pocket friendly Nail service in Hyderabad. They may not offer you a lavish manicure pedicure treatment but they offer skills to turn your nails into ones of diva.

From Gel Nail paint to Extensions, Metallic magic to Instagramable Nail Art they do it all.

I had two sessions with them, my experinace has been really good. The staff is well trained and know what they are doing. Show them a picture and they will excitedly paint your nails away. The quality of products are excellent and my nails stayed as new as it was when i got it done for almost 3 weeks.

However because the place is compact i would recommend you visit them only on appointment.

Abhinav Mishra at The Deccan Story, Hyderabad

The Deccan Story beings in some of the coolest and most stylish designer previews in Hyderabad. with wedding season approaching soon and this summer getting the best of us, Deccan story has come to rescue with a summer friendly wedding collection by much talented Abhinav Mishra.

Originally from Allahabad, Abhinav Mishra has always had a penchant for design, he decided to go to one of India’s top-ranking colleges for Fashion and Design, Wigan and Leigh College, Lucknow and started his career in the décor and events industry with – Rani Pink.  He much later started his eponymous fashion label in 2009.

Abhinav Mishra at The Deccan Story, Hyderabad

He is displaying his new collection ‘SAHIBA – Spring Summer ’18’ which is a dreamy collection of ethnic silhouettes. The couturier is known for his glamorous ethnic wear with pastel tones, textures and intricate embroideries. With an underlying mystical and romantic theme, this collection is the perfect amalgamation of traditional and contemporary silhouettes. ‘SAHIBA’ tells the story of a young girl who spends an unforgettable summer in Jaipur. The collection is an embodiment of his muse, a fun yet elegant and poised girl. He also introduces a stunning range of sarees in light hues and delicate Bougainvillea motifs and much more that is on display at ‘The Deccan Story’ Hyderabad .

His designs are light yet elegant ensembles featuring stunning mirror work. Pastel coloured lehengas with crop tops, impeccable shararas with long kurtas and anarkalis with delicate mirror work in natural fabrics, he has them all! The ensembles have a gottapatti touch inspired from Rajasthan paired with the elegant and soft looks of Lucknow.

Loving the pastel collection by Abhinav Mishra at The Deccan Story, Hyderabad

20180501_150559.jpg
Abhinav Mishra happy with the amazing response at The Deccan Story, Hyderabad

How did you come up with the idea of ‘SAHIBA’?
Abhinav Mishra: Since I do a lot of weddings and the guests seem to enjoy the vibe of weddings, I thought it would be a great idea to come up with a wedding line. The holiday environment surrounding weddings inspires the collection greatly.

What are the go to colours for summer weddings that suits the Indian skin tone ?
Abhinav Mishra: Navy blue, bright mustered yellow and olive green. However, peach, pink and white are evergreen.

If a bride wishes to go white, what do you suggest?
Abhinav Mishra: It is okay to turn to white. However, to consider an example, if the base is white the embroidery should be 80% golden in such a way that the colours look codominant. These are perfect for the wedding days and my clients mostly opt for  lighter shades. The skirt is usually heavy, so is the blouse and the dupatta is decently embroidered. The accessorising should can be done very well and the outcome is a modern and trendy bride.

It is seen that you use a lot of mirror work, what is the reason behind that?
Abhinav Mishra: I am from Lucknow and Mukaish work is very common there, but it is also time consuming. So, I have tried to replace the Mukaish work with mirror work instead. I typically use smaller mirrors and surround them with sequins to give a soft Mukaish look.

In terms of silhouette, what is going on with the shararas, ghararas and anarkalis?
Abhinav Mishra: I like to go simple with my cholis and shararas keeping the traditional look intact. Top hyderabad lifetsyle blogger, summer weddiing guide

We haven’t seen any chikankari in your work, especially since you hail from Lucknow, why is that? indian travel blogger, best hyderabad blogger
Abhinav Mishra: My first collection was a chikankari collection. It takes a lot of time and I have been really busy lately so I would say my next 2-3 seasons you will be seeing a lot of chikankari for sure. I like how even most youngsters are now fun to work with and love experimenting,  they are willing to wear a chikankari kurta with a mirror work gharara and banarasi dupatta. However, I feel chikankari is an evergreen.

This by far is my favourite piece from the collection, adorned by mirror work this will look good on all Indian skin tones
