Calcutta Bungalow

Kolkata, the first capital of British India is a place where you can still breathe the bygone era vividly. The architecture, people, street food and cabins (now known as cafes), museums and Bazaars clearly show how you can find beauty even amidst chaos

Calcutta Bungalow, a 90-year-old Majumdar bari (townhouse) restored and tucked in a quiet neighborhood. It is a heritage bed & breakfast with six rooms. Every corner of this three storied building boasts a mix of colonial and local architecture.  Away from the maddening chaos of the city, this is a perfect place to stay, that offers an old-world charm along with urban amenities to make your stay a comfortable one.

The intimate property has a small open courtyard and rooms that are named after old neighborhoods like Sahibpara, Darzipara, Mochipara, Potuapara (artists’ colony), Boipara (about books and publishing), Dorjipara (tailors’ hub), Jatrapara (famous for traditional theatre). The rooms dedicate a tale about the places they are named after.  Just like the rest of the bungalow the rooms too are a perfect amalgamation of vintage and modern and equipped with modern day luxuries like air conditioning, television with Netflix, WiFi an attached bathroom and comfortable bed. The place also boasts a reception, recreation room, terrace and a dining hall.

The dining room, called Notunbazar (named after new market), a common meal space for guests has loudspeakers as ceiling lamps and books that any intellect would like to borrow. While the breakfast is included in the stay, you will have to inform them in advance for dinner or order in, the staff is warm and helpful and lay down your meal for you if you wish to have it in common room, instead of your room.

Pine-n-Peak by ITC, Pahalgam

Pine n Peak Hotel, Pahalgam
Kahwa & Freshly Baked Cakes on arrival at Pine n Peak Hotel, Pahalgam

Surrounded by lush pine trees and snow-clad mountains, WelcomHotel Pine-n-Peak by ITC is located in the picturesque town of Pahalgam. Located atop the Rajwas Plateau, Pine-n-Peak’s pristine beauty remains untouched by the chaos of the market and ensures that the best views are accorded to Welcom Hotel Pine n Peak, including the shimmering Lidder River and snow topped mountains playing with the sunrays, bathing the valley in different hues throughout the day.

This ‘Khwabgah Suite’ our abode for in hills for three blissful nights
Room with a view at Pine n Peak Hotel, Pahalgam
Nothing is better than munching hot crisps in the freezing weather

Snuggled in the layers of untouched snow and fir laden paths, the property boosts of 80 rooms, suites and cottages. We got to stay the luxury ‘Khawabgah Suit’ (by the way it was the same room Alia Bhatt stayed while she was shooting for Raazi in Kashmir) not that it had to be a reason to make us special, as the room was special in its own way, the view was great, the living room and room had a touch of Kashmiri details along with urban amenities. Along with the most magnificent views of the beautiful city, one can enjoy a game of golf at the nearby Pahalgam Race Course, or shop from the finest shopping arcade of Pahalgam, or enjoy a day of fishing in the Liddar River. Those looking for high adrenaline activities can enjoy trekking, river rafting and also skating at the Welcom Hotel ice rink. Every season here brings with itself something new; the valley, it seems changes colors as winters fade into spring and summers blend with Autumn.

Freshly baked sheermal and Noon Chai at Pine n Peak Hotel, Pahalgam

It is rare to find charming and genuinely warm staff at most luxury properties. But at this property the staff will you impressed with their warmth, attentiveness, courtesy and a natural zeal to serve. Each of the staff members will leave a lasting impression on you and make sure even your tiny need is fulfilled with a huge smile.

Breakfast with a view, right in my Khwabgah suit at Pine n Peak Hotel, Pahalgam

Food: The property has three dining outlets, overlooking the garden and the river, Lolaab – All Day Dinning, Saahil – Tea Lounge, Gulistan – Open Garden all offer mutli-cuisine delicacies. Since it was my first stop in Kashmir i went all out on the local specialties like tabakh maaz, rista (meatballs in a red, paprika-saffron-fennel spice gravy), rogan josh,  korma (lamb roasted with yoghurt, spices and onion puree, topped with coriander leaves),  seekh kababs and contains four pieces of methi korma (chicken or mutton flavored with a spice mixture containing dried fenugreek (methi) leaves), marchhwangan korma (chicken legs/thighs cooked in a spicy browned-onion sauce) and gushtaba (meatballs cooked in a spicy yoghurt gravy) and also wouldn’t want to miss the best ever walnut brownie I have ever had was right here at Pine and Peak with ice-cream. The credit entirely goes to the staff who insisted to send it to our room when I told them I had no space for dessert, and I am so glad I did.

Kahwa is the traditional tea in Kashmir and it goes with everything you eat as it helps digestion of the food. The tea is prepared by boiling green tea leaves with saffron strands, cinnamon bark, cardamom pods and occasionally Kashmiri roses to add special aroma. The tea is then served with sugar or honey and crushed nuts, usually almonds or walnuts. I swear I dint have coffee my entire trip, and stuck to Kahwa throughout.

stay (1)
View from the gardens of Pine n Peak, Pahalgam
One of the best moments from my stay at Pine n Peak, Pahalgam was breakfast overlooking lidder river

I am not a morning person, but when I am in hills it comes automatically to me. I was so glad to make an effort on a cosy winter morning for an outdoor breakfast, overlooking the Liddar River. The crisp air, hot refills from samovar paired with fresh Kashmiri breads and an extended breakfast indulging in a view of hills was an absolute bliss. Stay at Pine n Peak was a really heart-warming experience, and all the credit goes to the staff, who will go out of their way to make your needs meet. I loved how they offered to organise a special bonfire, after a long ride (horse ride) to Baisaran organise an outdoor breakfast setup and treated us like family and even packed a take away meal for us for our ride to Srinagar our next stop.

You can have a look at their website here and make you summer/winter booking. A pro tip is that pahalgam has so many places, and if you a person who love trekking and exploring; you can spend up to a week without getting bored. Read more about places to visit in my following blogs, as I take you to a virtual journey to Srinagar and Gulmarg next.

Heavenly Spa at The Westin Hyderabad

Spa for most of us means a place where you get a massage. Which is actually not the case and at Westin Hyderabad, Heavenly Spa shows us why. The concept at Westin’s Heavenly Spa is to create a complete wellness experience.

I was invited over the weekend to indulge and review their signature heavenly massage. My therapist for the day led me to their massage room, and once I was ready she began with soaking my feet in warm water using mineral salt to cleanse them and began with my treatment. She used apple pie oil that gave extreme moisture to my winter dry skin. I drifted into Zen mode as she began with my concentrated (focus) area with required pressure to relive stress and have a more enhanced blood circulation in my body.

The pressure was just perfect and exactly what I needed after a long week of work, I enjoyed every bit of it.  As the warm oil seeped into my body I could feel my aches slowly fade away and enter a state of absolute bliss. This goes over an hour and my masseuse slowly kneads on my muscles combining that with gentle strokes. The last 10-15 minutes she spent massaging my face and head. More like pressing the correct pressure points and releasing stress and it was followed by a facial.

I opted for the ‘Illumination’ facial. It is curated to bring back glow to your face. The active ingredients and cooling gel mask brighten up the skin by treating the hyper pigmented areas. This again was an hour long treatment that was done using the ‘Comfort Zone’ products winding up with a pack followed by a serum to keep you skin glowing and hydrated.

At Heavenly Spa you can always add-on, facilities like body scrubs, steam and Jacuzzi right in your room (on additional basis).  The post therapy part included, being escorted to a quite dim lit, waiting area where I relaxed, breathing in an amazing experience I just had while sipping a hot  cup of green tea with some dark chocolates and walnuts for a quick a boost.

J W Marriott Resort & Spa, Jaipur

J W Marriott is one of the most recognized hotel brands in the world, and at their all new property- J W Marriott Resort and Spa, Jaipur we experienced most energized hospitality and were treated to some incredible meals. The property has a welcoming atmosphere, right from the traditional welcome and breathtaking lobby, there is incredible attention to detail that made our stay full of utmost comfort.

21- Swimming Pool-JAINH
JW Marriott Resort and Spa, Jaipur- Royal and Splendid

The Resort

It can be rightly said that J W Marriott Jaipur Resort & Spa is a modern day palace. I mean if i was a queen today, i would want my palace just this way, away from the hustle of the city, surrounded by the hills with all modern amenities and architecture that displays the best craftsmanship. A white tone follows throughout the property with breaks of blue and metallic at various places, well manicured paths, artistically done fountain spaces (indoor as well as outdoors), grand arches that are perfectly apt for a modern day royalty; and staying here we got treated exactly like that. When touring the property I was awestruck by the doors, the hand-painted patterns by local artisans, paintings and the architecture on the whole.

Food & Restaurants

Food at these restaurant are curated by executive chef Yogender Pal, i was delighted to meet him as i have known him for years, from when he was at The Marriott in Hyderabad. Sukh Mahal restaurant offers modern world cuisine but multi-cuisine delicacies are rustled up as adeptly as marwari meals in this all day restaurant.

On our last day we had a special surprise dinner at Mohan Mahal, just being there was a special experience, it was like dining in sheesh mehal. Mohan Mahal restaurant, is a gorgeous, tenderly-lit restaurant that serves up Rajasthani and Mughlai thali, open only for dinner. The design and beauty of the restaurant is architecturally reflective of Amer Fort’s Sheesh Mahal. Lit by candles, with Rajasthani music and gurgling fountains within the restaurant, provides a beautiful background score. Taking a notch above the meals are served in silver-plated tableware and local delicacies left us with a most found memory, one that will definitely add up to best dinner experiences i have had.

Chai and Musical evenings by the pool at JW Marriott Resort & Spa, Jaipur

Evening tea, in khullads (they also have cup options but obviously we preferred the desi khullad and masala chai) are best enjoyed while witnessing the performance by the pool that included folk music and folk dance. They also have a lot of fun activities like henna application, puppet show, pottery, elephant rides for kids and relaxing SPA sessions (read here), J W Marriott Jaipur has something to keep everyone indulged.

Room- Royal Courtyard Room

Our villa was bright, lively and equipped with amenities like cable tv, safe, coffee/tea maker, walk in closet and an attached bathroom with a tub and forest essentials toiletries, i love forest essentials; period. But our room and outdoor lounging area was not that got me excited, i mean it was beautiful but what i loved the most was our private outdoor plunge pool.

I spent an entire day and night right at the property to soak in all the beauty and luxury, i even spent a freezing few hours out in the lounging area watching the night sky and gazing the stars. If it wasn’t for January and winters, and the fact that it was more colder because it was at the outskirts, i would have spent the night out in the open.

22-Hotel pathway- JAINH

The landscape of this place has been done so amazingly that I absolutely enjoyed strolling around the property. The resort has a massive swimming pool by itself for all the guests.

We spent 3 days at this property, but it still felt like it wasn’t enough. The hotel is quite secluded from the city but the helpful staff had a car ready for us whenever we needed (on request), that made travelling totally hassle free for us. Finding cabs might get little tricky in the area so I suggest you book in advance. Being winters the nights were freezing, but I enjoyed my visit both to Jaipur and J W Marriott to the core.

Good Cow Café

The new café on the block, which is the brain child of Masaba Gupta promises to satiate your appetite for both good food and a good coffee.

Cappuccino at Good Cow Cafe

This post made it to my blog almost 3 visits later, the place has a very artistic vibe and somehow ambiance to me matters as much as the food itslef.

Iced Americano and Falafel at Good Cow Cafe

Good Cow Café offers both indoors and al fresco seating, both huge on design. The indoors are more of monochromatic drama full of bright light and cow figures, while the outdoors is a burst of colours, perfect for a summer outing. The place is full of wooden tables; old school benches outdoors, glass windows, book shelves but our favorite parts are definitely the black and white tiled floors and artful walls all around the place.

Grilled Cottage Cheese at Good Cow Cafe

The interiors of the place are done by Masaba Gupta herself. Anyone who is familiar with her designs will see its shadow in every corner of the place from cushions, caricatures, art pieces and even on the menu.

Monochrome interiors at Good Cow Cafe, Hyderabad

A dream come true for any voracious reader who can settle on a comfortable couch and satiate an appetite for both good coffee and books here. It makes for a great outing spot, be it with your friends or family; with its location away from all the hustle bustle of the city you can end up spending hours without even noticing it.

Pizza party at Good Cow Cafe, Hyderabad

The menu is a novel treat at the Good Cow Cafe, while their signature cappuccino that comes with their logo is fast becoming most Instagramable coffee in town, their iced Americano is just as good. For tea lover you have plenty of fascinating flavours but what will catch your attention is the range of special ‘Good cow shakes’ that offer flavours like brownie rocher, classic cheesecake, chilli alphonso mango, cookies and cream and berry merry.

The Wholesome Salad and Iced Americano are perfect summer treat at Good Cow Cafe

Coming to food i start with  their ‘Wholesome Salad’ that is flavorful and delights at every bite; and it makes for a hearty appetiser. ‘Arinchini’ is a crispy delight filled with goodness of carrot, beetroot, garlic flakes, served with tangy sauce on side that completes the dish.  Their thin crust pizza are in for the run of best pizzas in town, you must try their ‘Lamb Pepperoni’ that tastes as good as it looks and for vegetarians the ’Quattro Formaggi’ pizza is the one you will go home thinking  about.  My vegitaraian companions also tried their ‘Falafal’ and ‘Grilled Cottage Cheese’ relishing it with smiles on their face.

Arancini at Good Cow Cafe

The menu doesn’t have desserts yet, but they promise there is lot more to be added in the menu. Something for later right?

Hospitality Par Excellence at Lebua Resort, Jaipur

le bua

Located on the fringes of the city, amidst serene Aravali Hills, Lebua Resort is a luxury boutique hotel and spa destination in itself that channels the region’s color, vibrancy and cultural splendor.  The architecture of this resort property is heavily influenced by Jantar Mantar, the royal observatory but the result is so contemporary it’s hard to tell.  The entire resort has sweeping views that marries contemporary design with a Rajasthani sensibility. The raw red stone of the arched building appears fiery in the evening sun while each of the 60 suites and three villas at Lebua Resort, Jaipur are a celebration of textures, patterns, latticework and color. Sporting, opulent with maximal interiors, every room overlooks Aravali Mountains and is equipped with modern amenities.

Vibrant Interiors if my Suite at Lebua Resort, Jaipur

We were allotted a luxury suite , each suite is styled after one of Jaipur’s famous jewel colors and i got red. With unique black and white terrazzo flooring,  my suit had a traditional bay window for seating with jharokas that played with light that came in and also reflected on beautiful mirror work on ceiling.  The suit is full of artistic details, from  hidden bride painting above the bed, intricate inlays, hammered metal surfaces or sheer work of glass throughout the ceiling.

When at Lebua they pampered us with a specially curated high tea, post spa (exclsive blog on that coming up) at our own private terrace overlooking beautiful mountains with sun ready to set among them and we even spotted a peacock.  The mornings at the property is yet another experience we loved, the suit has a private open lawn with birds chirping around greeting you for a beautiful day ahead.

Evening turn down service at Lebua Resort, Jaipur

The evening gets better with their turn down services that literally filled my heart with warmth and respect for the staff for doing everything to make sure that my stay was no less than a memorable experience which i am sure i will never forget. Every evening they left us with surprise desserts rolled in a sheet that details a story of a local monument/tourist attraction along with a special bubble bath with rose petals. I couldn’t be more thankful for it, after a long touristy day,  to just take a dip in and soak my stress away.

The Palace Restaurant- Baradari, Jaipur

Baradari is where the royal grandeur meets the urban present. Baradari is the latest in a series of initiatives by the Jaipur royal family for the visitors at City Palace.  An elegant bar, white and black interiors with hints or traditional red side walls this place was just what i needed after my royal tour at city palace.

Tangy Brie Kachori at Baradari, Jaipur

After meeting the head chef, i left it on him to send us his best and i was treated well. sipping wine while i discussed all the royal encounters i just had at city palace, where every corner boasted rich heritage.  I soaked into the royalty around as they served scrumptious food that was perfect blend of Indian recipes and international combinations.

A delicious meal at Baradari, Jaipur

We started with ‘Tangy Brie Kachori’s’ filled with caramelized onions , served with aloo chat, headed to local delicacy  ‘Lal Maas’  served with Bajre ki khichdi and blanched spinach and bhati. I really enjoyed the ‘Agli Olie Pasta’ and ‘Risotto’ was out of the world. to wind up the meal, chef customized a traditional dessert platter that had everything form, ‘Apple Jalebi’, ‘Creme Brule’, ‘Ghevar’ and ‘Gulab Jamun’.

Dessert Platter at Baradari, Jaipur

The place is a treat in evenings where the palace is lit up and vibe here is as urban as it can get. The dishes here are approved and inspired from the royal household who wishes to offer public a culinary treat through Baradari. I would definitely recommend you to visit this place when in Jaipur and get a taste of local cuisine in most fusion way.

Sleepwear style with ‘Blanche’

What come to your mind when you say pajamas or sleepwear? Well I think of comfort, relaxed state of mind and SLEEP (of course). Sleepwear is not just a garment of night anymore, everyone will be able to relate the ecstasy of coming back home after a long day and getting into your comfy pj’s.  We gen next love to laze around in our Pj’s all day when we are at home.

While women’s nightwear was once full of shapeless garments whose sole reason was to just keep us warm and discreet, rather than looking nice and being comfortable. Nightwear is no longer for sleeping only, but has transformed into a fashion statement. Modern women prefer to wear sleepwear with a choice of fashionable cuts, sexy look or like me classy and well groomed.

So, when I had to choose, i undoubtedly went for a classy black pajama set with white detailing from ‘Blanche’ a Jaipur based brand that specializes in sleepwear. While the brand is all about some quirky prints, I was glad to find something that suits my taste.

This particular nightwear has been my holiday accompaniment for last few trips. Holiday mornings for comes with tons of coffee, breakfast in bed and undeniably strong desire to not leave the warm soft bed for the rest of your life. In such cases a comfortable and stylish sleepwear is just the thing I need.

For me Comfort and style go hand-in-hand and I found my hunt for perfect nightwear stops right at ‘Blanche’. So, snuggle yourself in comfortable (but not boring) nightwear, after all why stop being fashionable in bed?

SLY Tech Bar, Hyderabad

A bust work space remodeled into a Speakeasy Bar by three young entrepreneurs turned risk takers/dreamers. Throbbing and thriving behind a nondescript looking reception area – a space to give that devil may care attitude and letting loose the inner sly in you. The interiors are full of urban graffiti, brick walls and unmissable God Father Movie inspired high Chair, it’s like an IT guy’s dream of turning office into bar.

It’s a perfect place for techies (and others) who needs to let loose from their stressful workday.  A table tennis board, a section with comic books, ranging from Archie Comics, Aster-ix series, games such as Monopoly and Jenga make your waiting for food and drinks worthwhile.

Opening with ‘Mr.Miyagi’– an orange marmalade with triple sec, and shaken served in a martini glass top above a glass full if dry ice, giving bit a Smokey effect, for starters it was impressive, next came  ‘Lychee Rose Martini‘ where typical martini vodka was mixed with lychee juice and also with dash of rose petals and syrup.

Coming to food, prices are very pocket friendly and options are endless. The menu has an array of grubs to enjoy with drinks. However our favorites were, ‘Fish pointing Fingers’ served with chili garlic mayo was a crispy delight, ‘C80s Jalapeno & Cheese peppers’ was mouthwatering cheesy,   ‘Dharamsala Chicken Momos’ with tangy chili sauce was on point with flavors.

The ‘Trainee’s Kolkata Jhal Muri’  was close to authentic, amidst trying all the dishes, this particular dish was by my side till the very end.  ‘SF BBQ chicken Wings’ were glazed to perfection, a definite must try.  Last but not the least- ‘Chili Cheese Toast’ crisp and you just cannot go wrong on this simple yet delicious dish.

Ending on a sweet note- spoiler, they have only one dessert on the menu- ‘Sly Sundae’ which is alcohol infused’ Vodka soaked brownie served with vanilla ice cream and coffee sauce.

Best places to Eat in Manali

Casa Bella Vista, Manali
Casa Bella Vista, Manali

Casa Bella Vista
Tucked away from the main market of Manali, Casa Bella was suggested to me but lot of tourist around. I had read they had the best pizza in town as do it traditional wood fired pizza and serves only vegetarian food.  I ordered for their signature pizza which is a must try, its freshly baked, hand tossed, thin crust and wood fired.. Well a good treat in cold Manali weather.  Like most of the Cafes in Manali, this place has a lot of wood detailing and there are tall coniferous trees giving a very natural vibe to the place. The smoke from their oven, mixed with the smell of fresh baked bread will tantalize your senses even before you begin eating. The pasta however had more Indianized taste to it. Paired with cold coffee we had a really peaceful lunch experience. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, facilitates accommodation in its cottages, and has a small walk-in boutique selling kurtas, organic soaps and also, some accessories. We had a little problem finding a ride back since there are very limited options available on the spot, but the manager of restaurant was kind enough to call a local cab for us.

Cafe 1947, Manali
Cafe 1947, Manali

Cafe 1947
My Favorite place in Manali, that visited 3 time in my entire Manali stay. Live Bollywood music, riverside outdoor seating, cozy indoors, dim lit and quaint, hot toddy and uncountable wins of board games and cheerful crowd. It just a must visit place if in Manali. Enjoy your favorite beer, sip on a hot cup of ginger tea, sweeten your mouth with desserts or just look out of daily specials, a visit to this place is a complete treat.  Located in old Manali on the banks of the Manaslu river surrounded by pine trees, this place will release all your tension and stress transporting you to a complete Zen mode. Coming to food, we had ordered coffee, French fries, pizzas and Brownie with ice cream.  Cafe 1947 is surely one of the best restaurants in Manali and a must visit in your itinerary.

 Johnson’s Café
Situated at a walking distance from the Mall Road, Johnson’s cafe is known for its expertise of Himalayan river trout. The wood oven baked trout along with roasted almond sauce is must try. They have beautiful wooden interiors, complemented by alfresco seating arrangement amidst the lush lawns and Indoor bar, the live music at night makes it a place that you can chill for hours be it lunch or dinner, or just over drinks and good music. This place also offers accommodation and the host and owner Piya Jhonson was the best company we had in our entire trip. She told us about how this café has been a very natural thing for her, she sourced and grew most of the things keeping a very keen eye for quality. She came from a family that had an open house welcoming friends, family and travelers alike. She sat with us through our meal and entertained us with her travel stories, fats about Manali and some local suggestion we ought to try.

Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach

Visakhapatnam Beach, One of my Favorite Beaches in India

I have always loved Novotel properties; with two in Hyderabad itself my visits to their restaurants are quite often (they have some the best food festivals in town). This however was my first stay at one of their properties.

If you are following me on Instagram you would know the trail of this trip was Araku Valley and Vizag. This was a trip that took me ages to plan; it was kind of a reunion with my college friends but with lovely additions as many now came in category of Couples.

My stay at Novotel Varun Beach was second part of our travel plan. The hotel is just 30 minutes from the Airport and walking distance from the beach giving Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach a great reachability and accessibility factor. The moment I stepped into the hotel through huge glass doors, the foyer was bustling with people, mostly looked like a conference just winded up.

Post our easy check in and welcome drink; we were led to our rooms. The moment our elevator door opened I could see a spacious lounging area with beautiful sea view, only hoping my room would have the same; And it did. The hotel had a very urban vibe – modern decor portraying minimalism without lacking on quality. My room was bright, spacious living room, beautiful washrooms, walk in closet and cozy room- designed for a modern traveler. I loved the view and the coffee machine in my room the most (ah, the coffee addict in me)

Breakfast with view at Novotel
Breakfast in Bed, Perfect Leisure Holiday

Food: The Square, an all day dining restaurant serves global cuisines. We had our lunch here and the service and food was just splendid.  Breakfast is also served at the square where you can choose from cooked selection, juices, continental, fruit bowls and choice of eggs and of course Indian selections as well. Well I had mine in bed. Thanks to the courteous staff for making my holiday a perfectly leisure one.

Cheesy Pizza at Novotel, The Square

Vue -The lounge is great place to chill and since had an early morning flight we decided to chill at the hotel lounge for our last night. The interiors were pretty but we preferred our drinks outside by the pool overlooking the endless sea.

Zaffran: Zaffran is the second restaurant at the property and the cuisine is regional, they a five course Menu of the Day with all seats overlooking the ocean. I was really honored when the chef had us try some of the dishes from their new menu and the food was just incredible. My favorite was definitely the ‘Chuza Khas Tikka Masala’ that was finger looking good, special thanks to Chef Mrinmoy Pal, for extending his hospitality. The infinity pool is another feature of property which will enhance your stay (experience) at this property, a dip in the pool and view of Bay of Bengal is just stunning.

All in all it was a great stay, the view and food is definitely the factor I will most likely visit the property again. so go ahead an make your monsoon plans as its great time of the year to visit Vizag. Hyderabad food blogger, Indian food blogger, lifestyle blogger India

Neemrana Fort – Palace

Neemrana Fort Palace

The Neemrana Fort Palace in India is one of the first Palaces turned hotels in India, equidistant from both Delhi and Jaipur this should be on your list of travels in India. The fort dates back to 1464 and opened its doors to tourists in 1991 to soak in the charm of its rich heritage. A luxurious 55-bedroom hotel is an enchanting building, which is located on a hillside to afford the former king views over the nearby village, boasts palace wings covering six acres of land over 12 separate levels

Royal Mornings at Neemrana Fort Palace

True to its nature all Mahal’s (rooms) have been named after the purpose they served in bygone era and promises to give you an intimate experience with history. Each room boasts of authentic decor, traditional Indian furniture and antiques.

I was staying in Surya Mahal, uniquely done up duplex suits on first level is a royal retreat, traditional in design, themed after its name, there are bits of yellows splashed everywhere. The splurge on the Surya Mahal will give you access to two storey independent villa, with two bedrooms in addition to a private terrace, separated by long passage and jharokas; while the ground floor has a lounging area, two washrooms, study area and a dining area as well. Spacious with facilities of mini bar, tea maker, landline and missing TV was just perfect for a holiday meant truly to unwind.

Raj Kund, Pool at Neemrana Fort Palace

The terraces are the most enchanting spaces at Neemrana, from Shatranj Bagh, the terrace right above the fort’s main entrance and ramparts to Hawa Mahal where the complimentary evening tea, is laid out with cookies. Raj Kund the pool, surrounded by deckchairs to while away your stress. There’s a pleasant open-air amphitheater where concerts and plays are often held, you will be able to experience a traditional folk music — complete with dancers in sequinned costumes and fire-spitters.

Neemrana exudes an old-world charm; it is an exploration site in itself. The long passageways, jharokhas , maharaja portraits in the rooms, old wooden doors, latches, gigantic entrances, sneaky staircases, ruined walls, steep wells, gardens that are extravagant will make you taste the royal past in lap of modern luxury. Heritage drips from every bit and piece at this fort-palace

Food & Beverage: Normally your breakfast is included in your room tariff, but since its located in a remote area you don’t have an option to step out for food. So all our meals where at the in house restaurant including the evening tea session at Hawa Mahal, where all the in house guests enjoy a cup of their choice adoring the evening beauty around.  The Meals are all buffet and they also have special thali’s on weekend. They also have a bar, in the same chamber where maharja’s used to unwind in their days.

Oriental Spa: I had the most traditional Spa experiance at their in house spa, on suggestion i chose to go with their signature Rose Treatment. A luxurious romantic rose ritual that lasted for 90 minutes. It began with a fizzy rose foot soak as a welcome tradition after which my masseuse began with rose body scrub followed by aromatic rose massage, a holiday without spa is truly incomplete and i was in a true zen mode by the end of it. i was led to for a pine steam bath, and unlike modern spa this was a box in which i sat taking in the aroma and letting the oils do their magic (also imagining that, this is how maharanis rolled) winding up with Rose Tea from Anandini and some cookies to beat the hunger pangs on rise;  It was great to embark upon a journey of ultimate tranquility accompanied with exclusive pampering. Indeed making a memorable experience.

  • At Neemrana they offer you a chance to experience India’s first ever thrilling aerial zip-lining by Flying Fox.
  • An on request tour of the fort for the lovers of history and heritage.
  • Enjoy  Ayurvedic massages and rejuvenation programmes available at their in-house Spa.
  • Two swimming pools
  • Table tennis facility and indoor games for residents.
  • A 5 km Vintage car ride around the Neemrana village.
  • Multimedia Tour where you can now discover the history of Neemrana Fort-Palace. Explore its hidden nooks and see how it was as a ruin.
  • A Camel ride and Camel Cart Ride from the main gate to the step-well.

Recommended: Its quite a trek moving around the fort and navigation for restaurants, so make sure you carry your shoes, otherwise the staff is always around during the day to guide you. there are no exact sign boards to guide you, so try remembering the way, i certainly felt like i was at Hogwarts trying to find my way to the restaurant.

Here there is no morning or evening only peace that one can breathe in just by being in the premises. Sit by the lake, enjoy the moment because as Sikhs believe there is god in every devotee and just being among them is being with god.

Visit the Maze like Markets, take home Phulkari suits/scarfs or handcrafted Juttis (footwear) as souvenirs, enjoy the local cuisine that drips of Desi Ghee (butter) and feel the pride by visiting Wagah Border that shows a magical moment of ‘Lowering of the flags’ of two counties.
